FSU baseball: Takeaways from series sweep over James Madison
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU baseball (3-0, 0-0 ACC) swept James Madison in their 2022 opening series over the weekend. The Noles came into the season with high expectations with one of the best pitching staff in the nation.
The questions revolved around their defense and offense, both liabilities for the Noles the past couple of seasons.
James Madison wasn’t a great team last year, and their pitching staff was probably their weakest link.
However, the performance of the Noles over the three-game series was impressive, to say the least. Especially when compared to how they began the season last year. Mike Martin Jr. said the team improved in all phases, and it showed.
FSU won the games by the scores of 4-1, 13-2, and 10-4.
I don’t want to say the Noles are favorites to make it back to Omaha just yet, but I saw a lot of great signs.
I’m more interested in watching the Noles against better competition, but they did what they were supposed to do against an inferior opponent.
The Noles will face some stiff competition in the ACC Conference, so we’ll know if this team is for real before long. However, let’s get into some key takeaways from the first three games.
