Support Staff

A narrative with Alford’s predecessor, David Coburn, was that he inherited a mess from the previous guy Stan Wilcox.

That much was true as Coburn had no athletic director experience, and then President Thrasher didn’t want to hire anyone knowing he would retire soon. He was also confident Coburn could get the athletic budget back in order with his background.

Coburn had to manage that while also working through a pandemic which made matters worse they had to let folks go and take salary reductions, etc.

Coburn also knew he was not going to be at FSU long, and it’s likely why he didn’t do much in terms of providing funds for support staff.

However, if what KCamp describes above is true? I have no words other than it was wrong and hopefully is no longer happening.

One thing we have seen is more funds provided for the FSU football program. I wrote about it here, and it’s a direct result of Michael Alford understanding his role as Athletic Director.

FSU hired support staff in new positions recently, and they’ve reassembled a graphics design team that nearly had 100 percent turnover in the past few months.

Almost all of them cited working way too many hours and not getting paid enough. Has Alford corrected that problem? I’m not sure, but they’ve had a team in place for a bit now and may have more people on the team than when KCamp was there. At the very least, there’s someone in place that can respond to a request instead of not providing any answer like how KCamp described.
