Less than three years ago, FSU football had one of the worst graphics departments for a big-time football program that you could find on social media.

They were so bad I wrote a post about the hiring of KCamp because FSU football fans were familiar with his work as a freelancer.

The things he was doing were lightyears better than what FSU put out, and it was the beginning of a rebirth for a much-maligned graphics team that evolved into one of the better teams on social media.

KCamp left the FSU football program in October after the North Carolina game and went into those reasons and more on the latest On The Bench Podcast.

He provided some great insight into how things were with the old regime, the transition to the hiring of Mike Norvell, and what that was like. One of the things that stood out, and it’s something mentioned before, was the number of hours they would spend working compared to the amount paid.

It’s a common issue among graphic designers as universities find it difficult to find a happy medium between their work and the value it brings to the athletic programs. However, some of the things described by KCamp seem like they happened because FSU didn’t have a true athletic director in place.

That officially changed on January 3, 2022, when Michael Alford began in the role. Here’s why I think some of the things KCamp touched on show the importance of hiring someone like Michael Alford.
