FSU football has gotten off to a solid start with its 2023 recruiting class. The Noles are wrapping up its third recruiting class in the Mike Norvell era.

FSU signed 25 players, with one offensive lineman committed and likely 3-4 spots remaining. Players from the transfer portal or JUCO ranks can join later, but the No. 20 ranking will not change.

The Noles did some good things in the class. They signed one of the better quarterbacks in AJ Duffy. The offensive line haul was one of the better units signed in recent FSU history and should provide a solid foundation.

The two defensive backs signed are top 100 players nationally, which should provide a talent infusion and depth in year one. They missed a couple of positions like linebacker and wide receiver but likely got players from the transfer portal that will contribute more on the field in 2022 than any freshmen they could have signed.

The transfer portal is wildly unpredictable because there’s no way to predict if players that will fit a roster need will become available. The other part of that equation? Does FSU have a realistic shot at signing the said player if they enter the portal?

FSU football has to get to a point of progression on the field that attracts top tier players again, and top tier portal players, though less of the latter as FSU begins to compete at a higher level than in the past four years.

Here are the three major needs for the 2023 FSU recruiting class.
