Former FSU football running back Cam Akers doesn’t appear to be human after how he looked against the Arizona Cardinals Monday night.

The second-round selection was playing in just his second game after tearing his Achilles last July. However, you’d never know that with the burst, explosion, and power he exhibited in a 34-11 Ram’s win.

Akers led the Rams with 17 carries and had 55 rushing yards. He also chipped in the passing game, and his stats would have been even better had he not dropped a long pass thrown slightly behind him early in the game that could have gone for a touchdown.

It was moves like this that made your jaw drop in awe after such a fast recovery.

Former FSU player Ermon Lane likely was thinking the same thing everyone else. Maybe it was because we hadn’t seen Akers since he began to turn it on late in his rookie year. However, Akers did seem to have an extra burst Monday night. He delivered hits to opposing defenders and gained extra yards after contact while showing good vision and patience behind his offensive line. It was such an impressive performance the team decided to award him the game ball after the playoff victory.

Akers has good timing for his breakout performance as the win Monday night earns the Rams a road trip against Tom Brady and the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Rams bested the Buccaneers 34-24, but it was tough sledding on the ground for the Rams without Cam Akers as Sony Michel amassed 67 yards on 20 carries.

The Rams’ defense was the difference in the game, forcing Tom Brady to put the ball in the air 55 times as opposed to only 13 total rushing attempts. Can the Rams beat them twice in one season? If so, Cam Akers will likely have a big part in it.
