The Future

I think FSU football has more overall talent on the roster now than they did at the end of the 2020 season. The way they addressed the quarterback position with AJ Duffy is promising, and hopefully, they will take another QB from the portal to help with depth in 2022.

The way they attacked offensive line recruiting means they should be set up nicely in 2023 and beyond. I feel the same with the wide receivers, who all have multiple years of eligibility remaining.

I have faith in Mike Norvell and the running back position as they have always produced no matter who is back there, plus the offensive line should be better in 2023. We’ll see about the tight end position, but they have some bodies there to develop.

Defensively, I feel good about the secondary as they have recruited well there in recent years. My only concerns lie in the defensive tackle and linebacker units. FSU has to nail these two positions in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

They will lose two of their top defensive tackles after the 2022 season and could lose Kalen Deloach and Tatum Bethune at linebacker if they have monster 2022 seasons. I’m not saying they will, but it’s possible. In a nutshell, progress for this program to return to respectability in the next year or two is underway.

Ultimately, they will have to win enough games to compete consistently for elite players to return to the top again. Until then, they’ll have to continue to get quality transfers and those second-tier blue-chip players that are good enough to beat teams they should beat every year.
