FSU football: Grading 2019 recruiting class in retrospect
By Kelvin Hunt
Final Thoughts
On paper, the ranking wasn’t FSU standard, but it wasn’t atrocious like Miami in the 40’s right now with their 2022 recruiting class.
However, the biggest thing that stuck out to me was the lack of filling needs on the roster. Willie Taggart wasn’t able to sign a quality high school quarterback(Sam Howell flipped to UNC right before the Early Signing Period).
The failure to sign a skill player was ridiculous, and the overall quality of the player taken in the recruiting cycle was terrible.
Will any of these 21 players get drafted by an NFL team? There’s maybe 1-2 potentially unless someone blows up in the 2022 season.
I’d have to give this recruiting class a massive F based on how many needs were not met and how less than 30 percent of the class have become contributors. The first full recruiting year with a head coach is when they should be able to put together a great class, but this one was nowhere close to it. This aspect, along with how things were going on the field in 2019, let me know Willie Taggart wouldn’t find a way to bring FSU football back to respectability. The quality of players committed in the 2020 class wasn’t getting any better overall and wasn’t going to get better after another disappointing season.
(Sidenote): This grading does not cover players from the transfer portal since they don’t factor in the recruiting rankings.
