FSU football: Top 5 standout players from 2021 season
By Kelvin Hunt
Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis was the most important player last year, and FSU football doesn’t win five games without him. Travis didn’t start the year off playing as well as he did towards the end of the season. That’s a good thing and shows progression in his skillset.
However, the biggest factor early in the season was his unavailability to play games. Once Travis got healthy enough to play, one of the most important things I saw was his awareness to limit the number of hits he takes.
His availability is his greatest weapon because he’ll likely produce unless he’s facing an elite defense. Travis finished the season, completing 63 percent of his passes for 1,539 yards and 15 touchdowns.
More importantly, he only threw three interceptions after throwing three in the season opener, and none of those three were egregious or his fault. Of course, Travis was a vital part of the running game, accounting for 25 percent of the team’s rushing total.
There’s still a ton of room for improvement in Travis’ game, and he’ll be working on those aspects this spring. Pocket presence, game awareness(when to run and when not to), and anticipatory throws.
