Final Thoughts

FSU football could sign more high school players on National Signing Day in February. However, I expect that number to be relatively small if any, and the majority of the unsigned player remaining won’t be instant impact guys unless they pull off a heck of a surprise.

The only question then would be, why didn’t such a great player sign early? Are there red flags?

The coaching staff will continue to dip into the portal for more experienced players, which will be valuable for these young signees to develop and possibly become contributors in year two.

This aspect is why I wasn’t making such a big deal out of missing with some players in this recruiting cycle. The odds of them contributing in year one were very small. It’s a different ballgame than a couple of years ago when there was no transfer portal.

However, FSU must do their due diligence on the portal players they decide to sign. Factors like how many years of eligibility they have left can impact their recruiting of high school players in future classes.

They also have to be the right fit culture-wise, or else you’re undoing all of the progress made over the past two seasons.
