Azareyeh Thomas

FSU football went into the 2021 season with what we thought were solid options at the cornerback position.

However, Travis Jay couldn’t cut it, losing too many 50/50 battles, and Jarvis Brownlee is somewhat limited against quicker wide receivers.

However, the emergence of Omarion Cooper could be the answer at one of the spots. He came on strong towards the middle of last year, although he wasn’t an early enrollee. The second-highest signee, Azareyeh Thomas, could follow a similar path.

The only difference is he’s an early enrollee and a top 100 player nationally. Thomas has exceptional length and the speed to handle faster receivers, unlike Brownlee.

Brownlee is a dawg and plays with a lot of heart, but he’s going to have to fight to keep his starting spot. It’s as simple as putting the best guy on the field. T

homas has more tools, and it’s about acquiring the experience necessary in the spring, summer, and fall camps to get on the field. The experience of Brownlee will be valuable, no doubt, but I expect Thomas to get on the field somehow, sooner than later.
