Sam McCall

The FSU secondary hadn’t looked like DBU in recent years, but that started to change towards the middle of last season.

It was the most interceptions they’ve had since the 2016 season, and opposing offensives only completed 58 percent of their passes.

One big factor was transfer Jammie Robinson, who led the team with 84 tackles from the safety position. It’s not clear if Robinson plans to return for the 2022 season, and one player that would likely see more playing time if he doesn’t is freshman Sam McCall.

McCall is the highest-rated player to sign early, a five-star that’s physically ready to play. He’ll be an early enrollee, which will expedite things, not to mention he’ll likely see snaps on special teams.

Akeem Dent, Sydney Williams, Travis Jay, and Jarques McClellion are other safeties that saw significant minutes in 2021.

I won’t be surprised to see McCall pushing for playing time once he gets a few games under his belt, similar to Kevin Knowles in 2021. I think Robinson returns in 2022, but if he doesn’t, McCall will see the field much sooner than later.
