FSU football coaches look to close strong with their 2022 recruiting class via the transfer portal but must continue progressing with 2023 high school recruits.

One of the areas FSU failed in the high school recruiting in the 2022 recruiting cycle was the linebacker position. Former linebacker coach Chris Marve secured one commitment, with South Florida’s Omar Graham Jr.

Marve, took the defensive coordinator job at Virginia Tech, which means Randy Shannon will try his hand at making an impact in recruiting linebackers after his promotion to co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

The Noles have offered 15 linebackers in the 2023 recruiting cycle, and one of them listed the Noles in his top seven schools Saturday night:

Jayvant Brown lists as the No. 176 player and No. 15 linebacker nationally. He checks in at 6’0″ and 220 pounds, hailing from Deerfield Beach High School in Deerfield Beach, Florida. That program has a penchant for producing hard-nosed players.

He lists 17 offers from the likes of Alabama, FSU, Miami, Auburn, Ohio State, Florida, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Kentucky, Penn State, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, among others. It’s noticeable that Miami didn’t make his final seven schools with the announcement after Mario Cristobal has been on the job for a couple of weeks. It should be noted he received his offer from former Miami coach Manny Diaz.

Brown received his offer while visiting FSU football on February 2nd, 2020, a month or so before the pandemic hit. He visited FSU in June for one of their camps as well. FSU linebackers coach Randy Shannon will be under the microscope in his first full recruiting cycle as an on-the-field coach.

Can he use his in-state recruiting ties to reel in one of their top targets at the position? FSU has localized recruiting to Florida and Georgia much more in the 2023 recruiting cycle and beyond, with three of their four 2023 commits hailing from the Sunshine State.
