FSU football has wide receiver needs to address through through the transfer portal.

Arizona State’s Johnny Wilson is the latest former blue-chip receiver to commit to the Noles from the transfer portal in the last week. Wilson entered the portal on December 21 and the staff wasted no time.

The Noles had former Oregon blue-chip receiver Mycah Pittman commit to the Noles a few days ago after not signing any high school wide receivers in the 2022 recruiting cycle.

Wilson announced the news via his Twitter account Thursday night:

Johnny Wilson is the former No. 116 player overall and No. 21 receiver in the 2020 recruiting class. He was committed to Oregon before signing with the Sun Devils. Wilson checks in at a massive 6’7″ and 230 pounds and had 12 receptions for 154 yards and one touchdown in five games last season. He should have three years of eligibility left with the 2020 COVID year.

This is a huge pickup for Mike Norvell and the coaching staff. Wilson is physical and already has some game experience, which should prove more valuable than depending on true freshmen to impact the 2022 season.

It also gives the Noles another huge wide receiver, along with Malik McClain, who stands 6’4″. FSU has a host of smaller wide receivers in the 5’10”-6’1″ range. Wilson originally hails from the west coast out of Calabasas High School in Calabasas, California. He should be able to enroll in the spring semester, which will prove valuable to becoming a contributor as he forms a rapport with the quarterbacks and gets acclimated to the FSU football offense.

I know some fans were upset the Noles didn’t get a commitment from the Louisville wide receiver that committed to Ole Miss. As I said on social media, FSU didn’t push for that guy very hard, and now we know why that was the case. The FSU offense potentially just got a lot better for 2022.
