Dalvin Cook makes third consecutive NFL Pro Bowl for Vikings
By Kelvin Hunt
I remember writing about how former FSU running back Dalvin Cook was the best at his position heading into the 2017 NFL Draft.
I laid it all out here, and Cook’s third consecutive NFL Pro Bowl selection continues to validate my argument.
The other two backs thought to be among the best were Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey.
Fournette was the No. 4 overall pick, and McCaffrey was the No. 8 overall pick. Cook didn’t hear his name called until the No. 41 pick overall in the second round.
Dalvin Cook has more rushing touchdowns and the highest average per carry among the group. He has more career starts and holds his own in the receiving game. That’s one area I said McCaffrey had the edge over everyone.
There’s an old saying you’re only as good as your availability, and McCaffrey has only played in 10 games over the last two seasons. Cook dealt with injuries in his first two seasons but showed great production when healthy.
It was a precursor of things to come if he could stay healthy, and now that’s come to fruition over the past three seasons. The crazy part is Cook has played while hurt several times, much like he did in his time at FSU and still put up impressive numbers.
A perfect example was two weeks ago against the Pittsburgh Steelers when Cook set the franchise record for rushing yards in a half when it was questionable if he would play in the game. He finished the game with 27 carries for 205 yards and two touchdowns.
Cook has been much more consistent than Fournette, who’s had wild fluctuations in production in a couple of his seasons. Shoutout to Dalvin Cook for proving me right and for his third consecutive Pro Bowl selection.
