Final Thoughts

Kenny Dillingham was fine overall as a coordinator, and I think he’ll do well at Oregon. However, I believe the promotion of Alex Atkins makes the staff better overall.

Atkins seems like a guy wise beyond his years and has the results on the field and on the recruiting trail that demands respect from players and coaches. If anything, I think the latter likely feels some pressure to match what he’s doing on the recruiting trails, and that’s a good thing.

Atkins would likely have opportunities elsewhere within the next year as an offensive coordinator. The promotion will likely keep him in Tallahassee for at least two more years.

Mike Norvell will probably need to make some more changes to his staff. One thing that sticks out is he had a 25-minute conversation with Alex Atkins over the phone and offered him the job without meeting face-to-face.

Norvell has shown the ability to identify coaching talent and hopefully can find another guy like Atkins to add to the staff when those changes come about.
