Key takeaways from Michael Alford introductory press conference

Embracing Excellence
One of the attractive things about hiring Michael Alford is he’s been at FSU long enough to identify processes that need modernizing. It’s something we saw with Seminole Boosters over the past year.
The personalized approach was increased Booster numbers higher than they’ve been in years. He said, “we will compete and hold everyone accountable to a culture of high standards. The standard is the standard.” That phrase is something we’ve heard around FSU for years, but it’s a must if he’s to be effective in his job.
His time with Seminole Boosters should aid him in finding the right fit to replace him. It’ll also allow him to effectively hold that person accountable to the standard he set over the past year and a half as Seminole Boosters CEO. Why is that important?
It’s because Seminole Boosters operate under the same umbrella as the athletics department now, unlike in years past when Andy Miller was in charge of Seminole Boosters. These two entities will work hand-in-hand to get FSU back to an elite level on and off the field.
That means resources for student-athletes, state-of-the-art facilities, and the best coaches. An athletic director that understands the importance of fund-raising and holding everyone accountable should be a game-changer for FSU athletics. It’s something the department has been missing for nearly a decade.
