FSU football: Top 3 substantial offensive improvements in 2021
By Kelvin Hunt
Jordan Travis Quarterback Play
The development of Jordan Travis over the year was a pleasure to observe, considering how the season began against Notre Dame. Travis threw three interceptions in that game that ultimately cost the Noles 21-points and a loss.
However, Travis only threw three more interceptions the entire season. One of those was a hail mary at the end of the first half against Wake Forest, another was on a screenplay where Camren McDonald failed to make a block, and the final one was against Florida that really was an incomplete pass. Jordan Travis improved his passing completion percentage from 55 percent to 63 percent.
He also began to complete passes in the middle of the field, an improvement from the shot plays and screen passes from 2020. The improved passing coupled with his ability to scramble with his legs was an issue for defenses to handle.
Travis still struggled with throwing some guys open and deciding when to stay in the pocket and when to use his legs. There were times he still go happy feet and left clean pockets. However, I have to give credit where it’s due because improved over last year in most aspects.
The biggest question is can he stay healthy for an entire season? If so, and the offensive line continues to improve, and FSU football gets some help at wide receiver? The offense should become more consistent while maintaining explosiveness and that’s a potent combination.
