FSU football: Top 5 substantial defensive improvements in 2021
By Kelvin Hunt
Final Thoughts
A large segment of FSU football fans still doesn’t believe in Adam Fuller as the defensive coordinator.
I’m not willing to say he’s elite or anything, but the man has proven the ability to coordinate a defense without a lot of talent. My question is will the defense improve if they continue to upgrade the talent?
That’s what should happen with any good defensive coordinator. If you take talent off the roster, it won’t matter who the defensive coordinator is. The two go hand-in-hand, as Georgia head coach Kirby Smart told everyone after they ran through Florida.
I think there’s something to be said for continuity and players continuing to become comfortable in Fuller’s defense. Better players will win more of those 50-50 opportunities when Fuller has them in a position to make a play.
If you remove Fuller, then the players have to learn a new system and lingo while the coach has to get the players he likes into the program.
Mike Norvell has proven to be a bright offensive mind, and it’s probably smart to trust him when it comes to choosing a defensive coordinator. I’m sure he’d be able to determine if a defensive coordinator was impressive or more so than fans on the message boards.
