FSU football: Top 5 positional needs from transfer portal
By Kelvin Hunt
Final Thoughts
I’ve seen some ridiculous takes out there. Some folks mentioned taking a punter from the portal? That’s borderline dumb. Alex Mastromanno has been fairly good for most of the season. Do people want to waste a scholarship on less than five terrible punts all season?
I don’t think they need to take a linebacker from the portal. Kalen DeLoach and DJ Lundy combined for 69 tackles each. Hopefully, the Noles can land Wesley Bissainthe in the 2022 class, along with Omar Graham Jr. I wouldn’t take a running back from the transfer portal unless he were a difference-maker like Georgia Tech’s Jahmyr Gibbs.
They have an underrated player in Rodney Hill and some experience returning at the position, even if Jashaun Corbin returns next year. However, Gibbs would be head-and-shoulders better than anyone on the roster.
FSU needs stability at the quarterback position and the offensive line. If they have that and the defense regresses without the production from Jermaine Johnson and Keir Thomas?
They could still potentially score enough points to win 7-8 games in 2022. I expect the back seven of the defense to be better than it was in 2021, so that should help negate some of the production lost along the defensive line if they can’t land any difference-makers from the portal.
