Quarterback

I said it on the Built For Playmakers podcast Monday night. FSU football coaches have to take a quarterback from the transfer portal, and he needs to enroll for the spring semester.

Mike Norvell can’t afford to rely on the health of ONE player to determine the success or failure of the 2022 season.

Jordan Travis has proven he can’t stay healthy for an entire year the last two years. He’ll also need legitimate competition to help him elevate his game.

That’s what we saw last year when the coaching staff brought in McKenzie Milton. The expectations for the 2021 season were not high, but winning five games in 2022 isn’t going to cut it.

If Mike Norvell wants to reach a bowl and win 6-8 games, he needs a better version of Jordan Travis or a quarterback better than Jordan Travis leading the team. If they don’t bring in a transfer quarterback, that leaves Tate Rodemaker and freshman AJ Duffy to carry the load if Jordan Travis got hurt.

There’s nothing smart about that decision if they go that route. Could Jordan Travis transfer if they brought in another quarterback? Absolutely, which is why it needs to be someone that can compete with him or possibly take the job.

However, Travis should understand he’s been injury-prone, and insurance at the position ultimately means more success for the program. Also, better quarterback play can make the offensive line and the wide receivers look better than they are at times.
