Defensive End

FSU football couldn’t have asked for a better defensive end tandem from the transfer portal with Jermaine Johnson and Keir Thomas.

They represented 33 percent of all tackles for a loss, 54.5 percent of all sacks, and 61 percent of all QB hurries in 2021.

That production is gone, and while a couple of young players flashed a few times, and they have some promising players signed last year that need to continue to develop. However, the coaching staff needs to hit the transfer portal for this position again in 2021.

They could sign elite legacy pass rusher Marvin Jones Jr and have another legacy defensive end committed with Aaron Hester coming from the prep ranks.

However, they need proven commodities that are physically ready to play since that was one of the biggest strengths of the FSU football defense in 2021. A strong pass rush helps in the run game and helps the secondary make plays since they don’t have to cover receivers as long.

It’s great FSU defensive coordinator Adam Fuller recognized what Johnson and Thomas brought to the table, and now he has a blueprint to hopefully try to find those type guys again.
