Final Thoughts

I take the Mike Norvell approach in these situations. Despite fewer resources, FSU has proven to be the best program of the big three over the past 20-30 years.

It’s like if FSU football is buttoned up and operating at optimal levels, it doesn’t matter what Miami and Florida do for the most part. One thing in Napier’s favor.

Billy Napier will inherit a more talented team than Mike Norvell when he took over FSU football in December 2019.

Jim McElwain inherited a talented Florida program in 2015 and promptly ran it into the side of a mountain before the two parted ways. Napier could be a solid hire for Florida, but will he be the guy to lead them to compete for national titles again?

On the surface, I’d say no, but again, it depends on the staff he hires in Gainesville. There are no coordinators from his Louisiana-Lafayette staff with any Power-5 experience.

It’ll be interesting to see who he hires and how the Gators close with the Early Signing Period approaching in a couple of weeks. Those two aspects will provide a quick snapshot of what’s next in Gainesville.
