FSU Football: Players react to ending of 2021 season
By Kelvin Hunt
The FSU football season went by in a blur. It seems just like it was yesterday when I felt the excitement building all Sunday before the Noles kicked off the season against Notre Dame.
The atmosphere and the response from the recruits in attendance had everyone on cloud nine. However, the following week had me legitimately questioning if I wanted to continue putting so much time into writing about this team.
Much like the players on the team, I’m glad I didn’t mail it in and miss the progress they made throughout the year. No, 5-7 isn’t the standard, but we saw a tremendous amount of growth in several areas and from several players.
A few of the players arrived in January, and their ride in Tallahassee is already over. Some players have been in Tallahassee long enough to be committed while Jimbo Fisher was the head coach.
Some players took to Twitter to provide a snap shot of their thoughts after the regular season ended:
Thoughts
We know Jermaine Johnson, Keir Thomas, Devontay Love-Taylor, and Andrew Parchment exhausted their eligibility. Johnson and Thomas were two of the most impactful players from the transfer portal that I can remember.
Love-Taylor never seemed to recover from his injuries last year and Parchment’s lone year in Tallahassee failed to meet expectations. However, I maintain his catch against Miami made his scholarship worth it. Robert Cooper and Jammie Robinson could return next year, but we’ll have to see what the future holds.
Their tweets were vague and could imply they plan to enter the NFL Draft. Amari Gainer is already getting ready for next year it seems, and Kevin Knowles has already entrenched himself as a freshman in 2021. It was a tough year for these guys to endure.
I’m sure Johnson and Thomas thought they’d win more than five games when they decided to transfer, and Parchment thought he’d have more of an impact. The fans were brutal when things were 0-4, and I have to give an immense amount of credit to this team for how they persevered to finish the season.
Good luck to the guys leaving, and hopefully, the guys returning understand the work required to reach the next level.
