FSU football: 3 key takeaways from road victory over Boston College
By Kelvin Hunt
Defense Was Lights Out
I know many FSU football fans dislike Adam Fuller and wanted to fire him several games ago. I’ve been one of the few that have criticized when necessary, but also recognizing this FSU defense has improved light-years from the past couple of years.
I thought the defense would play well enough to win because I wasn’t as high on Phil Jurkovec and the Boston College offense as most. The FSU defense was light’s out, holding Jurkovec to 10 of 24 for 148 yards and one touchdown and the game-cinching interception. Jurkovec converted some third downs with his legs, but you’d rather have that than him throwing the ball all over the field.
The FSU defense punished him physically, sacking him four times with 11 tackles for a loss and eight QB hurries. They had one explosive TD play to Zay Flowers and another long play where the BC defender made spectacular moves.
Boston College had 95 yards at halftime and averaged 2.71 yards per play. They only averaged 4.24 yards per play for the game, and that was with Jammie Robinson missing over half of the game for a targeting call.
Adam Fuller and the players deserve a ton of credit, because they had to overcome the referees continuing several BC drives when they had gotten the stop on third down.
