FSU football: 3 keys to Noles defeating Boston College
By Kelvin Hunt
Run The Ball
It’s as simple as that. Boston College can’t stop the run and when healthy, FSU has one of the best rushing attacks in college football. The Noles average 4.90 yards per rush and run the ball 58 percent of the time.
I know Jordan Travis displayed some ability to throw the ball against Miami, but Boston College’s secondary is better than Miami. There is no need to fall in love with trying to prove Jordan Travis has improved as a passer.
FSU doesn’t need another loss because they were trying to be cute on offense like against Jacksonville State. Boston College is among the worst defenses when it comes to stopping the run or getting tackles for a loss.
A steady dose of Jashuan Corbin, Treshaun Ward, and possibly Lawrence Toafili (if he’s healthy) would be optimal. Boston College has problems setting the edge and has allowed several teams to rush for over 200 yards this season.
I know the FSU offense depends on explosive plays, but this is a game where they should be content with what’s available. The Eagles will look to make them execute down the field, as they are among the best at limiting explosive passing plays. A steady run game also keeps their most important player, quarterback Phil Jurkovec off of the field.
