FSU football: Top 3 Boston College weaknesses that benefit the Noles
By Kelvin Hunt
Offensive Running Game Isn’t Special
When you think of a typical Boston College team and their rushing attack, they usually have a big physical guy that isn’t explosive.
Well, that’s what you have with sophomore Pat Garwo. Garwo has 909 rushing yards on 170 carries for a 5.35 average per carry.
However, when we break the numbers down farther, he’s crossed the 100-yard mark against UMASS and Missouri early in the season, who both have terrible defenses.
He crossed the 100-yard mark in each of the last two games with Phil Jurkovec back at QB, but only averaged 4.1 yards per carry in those games. His longest run in the last two games has been 16-yards against Georgia Tech. I should also note he’s not much of a receiving threat with only two receptions this season.
The other two running back options average less than four yards per carry.
One thing FSU fans will need to be aware of in the running is quarterback Phil Jurkovec. He has run the ball 22 times for 197 yards and four touchdowns.
A large portion of his production, eight carries for 71 yards and three touchdowns came in their last game against Georgia Tech. FSU has faced quarterbacks with the ability to run this year, so it’s not anything that should catch them by surprise.
