Special Teams

Alex Mastromanno played a good game and helped flip field position for the Noles a couple of times. He averaged 45 yards per punt and had three punts inside the 20-yard line.

Ryan Fitzgerald had a quiet day but made both of his extra-point attempts.

Punt returning at least saw guys field punts instead of letting them roll for 20-yards. NC State had several punt land inside the 10-yard line, but I thought it was the right call to see if they’d go into the end zone.

Kickoff return saw Treshaun Ward return the opening kickoff to the 20-yard line but should have fair caught the ball. The Noles didn’t return any other kickoff returns. Kickoff coverage was good the one time NC State returned a kickoff, only allowing a 21-yard return. The call to onside kick to begin the second half was a great call even if it hadn’t worked because the offense needed a spark.

NC State came into the game as the No. 11 team in the nation when it comes to field position, and it showed as they seemed to have the edge in field position for most of the game.

However, that was due to the FSU offense’s inability to move the ball most of the day.
