Mindset

The team continues to struggle when it comes to consistency and mindset. However, this is an area where we’ve seen huge improvements.

This team no longer folds like a wet t-shirt at the first sign of adversity. They’ve shown the ability to continue fighting in nearly every game while playing with great effort.

I know that’s the bare minimum, but that’s where we are as a program right now. They have adapted to sudden change moments better on both offense and defense. In the past couple of games, turnovers have not resulted in automatic touchdowns allowed by the defense.

The offense answered the bell in critical moments when they needed to respond after the defense allowed a score. The ridiculous penalties have decreased significantly in the past couple of games, and the offense makes opposing teams pay when they get in the red zone.

I wrote Tuesday the team still needs to learn how to handle success as Mike Norvell was not pleased with practice. Improvement needs to show in this area, but that’s part of the process of learning how to win again as a program.

The UMASS game will tell us a lot if they go out and dominate or play sloppy. I talk about that aspect more on the Built For Playmakers Podcast above.
