Keyshawn Helton/Ontaria Wilson

The FSU offense has missed consistent playmakers at the wide receiver position most of the year.

There’s a reason why most folks want the Noles to rely on the run game and why the passes in the Syracuse game were screens.

The Noles only attempted 13 passes Saturday, with 11 of them were completed.

Five of those completions went to Keyshawn Helton and Ontaria Wilson. The two combined for 109 of the 145 receiving yards and two touchdowns by Ontaria Wilson.

Helton didn’t have the touchdowns to match, but he did have a couple of huge third-down receptions to extend drives. One of those catches was an NFL-type of catch with Helton extending to catch the ball with both toes just in-bounds.

The other was a drag route of sorts, where Travis hit him in stride, and he immediately cut upfield to get the first down. Helton’s other reception was an explosive 44-yard completion that helped set up a touchdown in the third quarter after North Carolina had scored.
