FSU football: 3 huge keys to Noles defeating Syracuse
By Kelvin Hunt
Stop The Run
Syracuse has done one thing well offensively against some poor competition, and that’s run the ball. They have run the ball 65 percent of the time this season. Syracuse averages 5.11 yards per rush and leans heavily on freshman running back Sean Tucker.
Tucker has 49 percent of their carries and averages 6.46 yards per attempt, with seven rushing touchdowns. When it comes to their passing game, they complete 60 percent of their passes with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Tucker is a big part of their receiving game, leading the team with 175 receiving yards. Syracuse quarterbacks take part in the run game as they have 51 rushes between two quarterbacks for 187 yards and five rushing touchdowns.
The Orange convert third downs 36.96 percent of the time. However, when it’s 3rd and 7 or longer, Syracuse has only converted the first down three times via the pass on 21 occasions.
They love to run screen passes on third down, so the FSU defense will need to be aware of getting upfield too much. The Noles have been good against the run through four games. If the Noles can limit their run game, they stand a great shot at limiting their offense.
