FSU football: Noles must recruit their way out of current abyss
By Kelvin Hunt
Offense
The three offensive positions that need the most infusion of talent reside at quarterback, offensive line, and receiver.
Wait, did I list the entire offense? Unfortunately, that’s the case as the Noles have been operating with pieces of a quarterback for years now. Fortunately, the coaching staff has 2022 QB AJ Duffy firmly committed, who’ll be an early enrollee in the spring.
He’s an instant upgrade talent-wise over anyone on the roster. They have done a great job of addressing issues on the offensive line. There’s a reason why they have targeted so many players in this unit.
The current crop of players on the roster had to play too early, became injured, and spent more time rehabbing than developing while adjusting to multiple offenses and coaches. Injuries have wrecked this unit, as evidence of the unit’s performance against Wake Forest with two starters out with injury. The lack of depth has been an issue for years and why this unit has been terrible.
So, we have a quarterback and players who should block things up in the future, which has been a big part of the problem offensively the past few years. If you have those two things, you don’t necessarily need five-stars at wide receiver and tight end to have a great offense.
However, the Noles do need an infusion of talent in those positions. Poor QB and O-line play were contributing factors, but there is no reason why Jacksonville State and Wake Forest should be able to lock up FSU wide receivers in man-to-man coverage.
FSU has a couple of commitments at tight end, and we’ll see how wide receiver recruiting shakes out as the season progresses. However, they need better players across the board.
