Convert Third Downs

Do you want to know something that drives FSU football fans mad? Teams converting on third downs, and FSU allows teams to convert third downs 41 percent of the time.

It’s been against FCS/FBS I-AA competition, but Wake Forest converted third downs 48 percent of the time through two games. It’s worth noting the two non-Power Five teams forced Wake Forest to convert 15 and 12 times, respectively.

It’s worth noting those two teams had two sacks and three QB hurries against Wake Forest. FSU’s defensive front will be the best they have faced by far this season, and we’ve seen FSU put teams behind the chains with sacks and tackles for loss.

We’ve seen the Noles struggle to get off the field even when they put teams in predictable passing situations. The question will be, can FSU get off the field on third downs against Wake Forest?

The Demon Deacons have 42 first downs on the season, and 23 (54.7 percent) of those have come via the pass, which brings me to arguably the best thing Wake Forest does offensively. It also happens to be what FSU struggles to defend the most.
