Win 1-on-1 Battles

The 1-on-1 battles are something FSU should be able to do since they are the more talented team. However, other than the turnovers that turned into 21 points for Notre Dame Sunday night, 1-on-1 battles are what cost them the game.

These situations are what Mike Norvell and Kenny Dillingham talk about all of the time for their offense. However, it was Notre Dame who won the majority of these battles. The two touchdown passes against Travis Jay come to mind.

He’s in a great position on both passes, but the receiver makes a better play on the ball, and that’s 14 points on the board. We saw Ja’Khi Douglas win a 1-on-1 battle against his defender to score a 60-yard touchdown.

I know Jacksonville State’s quarterback isn’t terrible, and they’ll have to put the ball in the air to move the ball. I need to see FSU defensive backs in a position to make a play on the ball and to win those matchups 90 percent of the time Saturday night.

These are the types of things they’ll need to do if they want to be the better teams on the schedule.
