FSU football: 5 areas of improvement needed after Notre Dame game
By Kelvin Hunt
Bad Snaps
I know it’s something that shouldn’t be a problem when you have two guys that have been snapping for years.
Bad snaps were an issue in fall camp, and they reared their ugly head in the Notre Dame game. Maurice Smith has been battling a back injury and did everything possible to play in the Notre Dame game.
He came out when it was obvious he wasn’t capable of playing at a high level. A back injury is something that affects every movement, so I can understand how that could affect Smith’s performance.
Baveon Johnson struggled to snap the ball as his replacement, and bad snaps cost the Noles several times in the game. They threw the timing off on some plays, and cost the Noles a crucial third down in overtime.
A better snap gives McKenzie Milton a chance to make a play to keep their drive alive instead of settling for a field goal.
Both players are on the depth chart this week, and hopefully, Maurice Smith’s back injury improves by Saturday night. I would almost be in favor of allowing him to rest this week since Jacksonville State is a game the Noles should win no matter what.
The Noles will definitely need him in the game against Wake Forest next week.
