FSU football fans expressed division on who they want the starting quarterback to be after taking Notre Dame to overtime Sunday night. Jordan Travis started the game after the consensus opinion was he improved as a passer since last season.

That’s debatable after his performance Sunday night. Travis made a couple of great throws, but the offense was boom or bust, with Travis making questionable decisions and missing some wide-open receivers. Part of becoming a better passer involves more than proper mechanics, as that doesn’t matter if a quarterback can’t process information fast enough to make the throw.

To be fair, FSU’s first three offensive possessions began with poor field position and Travis under heavy duress. He looked like the game was moving too fast for him, and he held the ball too long instead of using his legs when nothing was open. I counted at least three times where he missed open receivers while hesitating and got happy feet in the pocket.

Mike Norvell’s job is to win football games, not develop Jordan Travis into a pocket passer. That’s like saying he should have run Brady White more at Memphis even though he couldn’t run like Travis.

I spoke about it on the Built For Playmakers Podcast (subscribe please), but Travis seemed intent on showing he could throw the ball instead of doing what he does best. Would things have been any different if McKenzie Milton started the game?

Some fans believe so, but I’m not sure that would have been the case since Notre Dame may have prepared differently for him.

What I do know is the offense looked different when McKenzie Milton went into the game. There are a couple of reasons for that. Here are the pros and cons of starting McKenzie Milton.
