FSU football: 3 things to look for in Notre Dame game
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU Passing Game
The FSU passing game was non-existent in 2020. James Blackman held the ball and took too many sacks, and the young quarterbacks were not ready to be thrust into action.
Jordan Travis showed some flashes on certain routes but often avoided throws across the middle of the field.
I believe FSU’s run game will be OK with what they have. However, what type of passing game will we see from the Noles Sunday night? FSU’s offense will look to get their wide receivers in 1-on-1 matchups and throw a variety of timing/back shoulder passes.
I know we’ll see some screen passes as the Noles will look to spread Notre Dame’s defense out.
Will we see the Noles attack the middle of Notre Dame’s defense with slants or passes up the seam? If so, I’m curious if those passes will come from Jordan Travis or McKenzie Milton?
The other thing to look for will be Notre Dame’s defense. They like to run a lot of aggressive man-to-man defense, but that could be an area Jordan Travis could exploit in the run game when plays break down unless they put a spy on him.
If the FSU passing game is effective against Notre Dame’s defense, that will be a good sign against some lesser defenses coming up on the schedule.
