FSU football readies to play top 10 ranked Notre Dame in the 2021 season opener Sunday night.

It’s a game FSU fans have been waiting for since the Noles ended their season with a blowout win over the Duke Blue Devils in 2020.

A lot has changed since that game. Mike Norvell and the coaching staff brought in several players from the transfer portal, and the program had its first full offseason in the Mike Norvell era.

Recruiting has been one of the highlights that have given FSU fans hope as they go into the 2021 season. I think most fans are aware this team isn’t expected to win eight or 10 games. However, there’s confidence this FSU football team will be an improved product compared to the last few years.

That aspect, along with no restrictions on game attendance has Doak Campbell Stadium approaching a sellout for the game Sunday night.

A night game at Doak Campbell is one of the best atmospheres in college football, and that isn’t lost on Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly.

Brian Kelly has first hand experience, as he brought his Notre Dame team to Tallahassee in 2014 for a showdown between two top 5 ranked programs. The game took place in primetime, and the atmosphere was electric.

Man, that video gives me chills watching it, and I’ve seen it a gazillion times. There’s nothing like watching Chief Osceola and Renegade come out at night in front of a full stadium with the Warchant blaring from the Marching Chiefs.

Notre Dame has several new faces on their team, and the atmosphere could be factor if the Noles can find some success early in the game. We saw the effects of that in the North Carolina game last season when the Noles upset the No. 5 team in the nation as double-digit underdogs.

The Noles entered the week as +7.5 underdogs, according to Wynnbet, and it’ll be interesting to see if that number changes as we get closer to Sunday’s game.
