Consistent Progression Through Fall Camp

Mike Norvell has taken the smart approach with this team since the end of last season. His words and actions have told everyone what to expect.

The coaching staff taking several transfer players in the 2021 recruiting cycle told everyone they needed experience and production in key areas.

Once fall camp began, he has been consistent with his message. How often has he mentioned the wide receivers dropping passes and the need to improve there?

He’s been candid for the most part, more than most coaches, and I suppose he has to be since he’s giving the media a ton of access.

Several young players have emerged through fall camp, but that can be taken one of two ways. It means the freshmen are good, or the upperclassmen have been passed on the depth chart because they aren’t very good. However, if that means the better player is on the field, I’ll take it.

The quarterbacks have shown good progression since spring camp, especially Jordan Travis. The wide receivers have shown progress, despite the drops.

One promising item with that unit is the freshmen wide receivers remained fairly consistent throughout fall camp. The wide receivers were the worst unit on the team in 2021. However, Mike Norvell is making jokes about the offense throwing and catching the ball nowadays.

That’s a good sign.
