FSU football: 3 reasons for optimism coming out of 2021 fall camp
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football is coming to the end of fall camp as they begin to turn some of their focus towards the Notre Dame game.
Fall camp isn’t over, and there are a few positional battles ongoing as the coaches look to find the best possible combinations on both sides of the ball.
They’ve yet to name a starter at quarterback, though a favorite seems to be emerging according to practice reports.
One important battle I’m interested in is placekicker between Ryan Fitzgerald and Parker Grothaus. Special teams coach John Papuchus stated they could name a starter soon for that position.
I continue to believe the top 11 players on both sides of the ball can help FSU football reach a bowl in 2021. The importance of reserve players continuing to develop as fall camp and the season progresses can’t be understated.
That’s something the coaching staff continues to drive home with players that may have reserve roles once fall camp concludes. I kept waiting for Mike Norvell to have a press conference where he wasn’t happy with how practice went or team energy.
However, that never happened, and he seems to have quiet confidence in this group. I wouldn’t take that as he believes they will win eight games, but it’s likely more about the progress between this fall camp and last year at this time.
There are still several questions about this team as we approach the season opener. It’s kind of like having a great day at the golf range but wondering if you can bring it to an actual course. We’ll find out soon enough, but here are three reasons to be optimistic as fall camp comes to an end.
