Special Teams

I know I’ve been beating on this dead horse lately, but special teams are huge in hidden parts of the game.

It’s an area that showed some improvement in a couple of aspects(field goal and punt blocking) but was downright atrocious in others in 2020.

The field goal kicking has to improve, or Mike Norvell will be forced to go for it on fourth down every time. It sounds like Ryan Fitzgerald and Parker Grothaus have performed better and more consistently in fall camp.

The punt return unit needs to become a factor because the Noles have too many athletes to not have an advantage against lesser talented teams in 2021.

They also have to avoid losing the hidden yardage battle by not allowing punts to hit the ground. The mental aspect of knowing when to let a punt or kickoff go into the end zone is another area that needs improvement.

All of these can be the difference between winning or losing close ball games.
