Pass Rush

I can say with confidence if the pass rush is similar to last season, it’s going to be a long year. The Noles got zero sacks from this position in 2020, despite both starters getting drafted by NFL teams.

The lack of pass rush is the culprit for many things that were wrong for the FSU defense. The defensive backs had to cover receivers for too long, and they struggled to set the edge in the run game.

The good news is FSU coaches have tried to address the position through the transfer portal with Jermaine Johnson, Keir Thomas, and Marcus Cushnie.

All three players bring experience and production from their respective schools.

Some young guys that could see action in limited snaps like Quashon Fuller, Derrick McClendon, Patrick Payton, and Byron Turner.

This unit will likely define the success or failure of the defense in 2021. I don’t think it can get much worse, and I these transfers have something to prove since a couple of them only have one year of eligibility left.
