FSU football: The importance of reaching 85 percent vaccination threshold
By Kelvin Hunt
Sense of Normal
I felt for those football players last year. They already put their bodies on the line when things are normal.
However, last year they risked their bodies when they didn’t have the normal amount of time to prepare for the physical demands.
Not only that, what these players had to go through mentally and emotionally to play a game is not lost on me.
They couldn’t go home to see their family. They couldn’t go out and socialize because of the threat of COVID-19.
I tried to put myself in their shoes last year. Would I have had the discipline at 18-20 years old to take every precaution to keep myself and my teammates safe to play a football game?
I’m not sure, but I do know the state of Florida has one of the highest percentages of COVID cases in the nation.
I wouldn’t look at a player any differently if they decided not to get the vaccine. It’s their choice, and we all have the freedom to do that.
I know the vaccine doesn’t prevent someone from getting COVID, but I know the players getting the vaccine would allow them to live a more normal life in regards to getting football games played this year.
It all comes down to what the players value the most. Right now, it looks like they value football enough to reach the 85 percent threshold by the Notre Dame game.
