FSU football fielded an offense that was anemic in the first couple of games in 2020. FSU averaged 25.8 points per game.

That number is somewhat inaccurate because Jordan Travis wasn’t the main guy at quarterback in the first two games.

The Noles scored 23 points in the first two games, and it wasn’t until Jordan Travis entered the game as the quarterback against Jacksonville State that we saw signs of life.

There were two versions of Jordan Travis, healthy and banged-up Jordan Travis. The latter was limited and didn’t finish two of the games he started.

However, the healthy version led an offense that averaged 37.6 points per game.

It was Jordan Travis or nothing, with his impact on the running game as the x-factor. The threat of him running opened some vertical passes downfield a few times during the season.

However, FSU was still one of the least explosive teams in the nation in 2020.  There is a myriad of reasons why that’s the case.

Travis’s limitations as a passer, wide receivers failing to catch or get open, and the offensive struggling with pass protection were the main culprit

I think the offense will improve in 2021. The quarterback play should improve, the wide receivers seem to be making strides, and the offensive line should be better.

However, there are big areas the offense must improve for the Noles to win games in 2021.
