FSU football: 3 observations through first week of 2021 fall camp

Quarterbacks
FSU football has a legitimate quarterback competition brewing for the first time in forever. Jordan Travis has made noticeable strides with the passing game, which was a liability in the past.
Travis has been the most consistent of the two quarterbacks vying for the starting spot. However, McKenzie Milton seems to play better when the lights come on (scrimmages) as opposed to daily practices.
There’s a lot of practice left in fall camp, and we saw how McKenzie Milton began to close the gap during spring camp.
However, I think it says a lot about the coaching staff’s ability to help Jordan Travis develop as a passer in a short amount of time.
The consensus is Jordan Travis is a different quarterback compared to last year. He’s more confident as a passer and completing passes in areas of the field he would not have attempted last season.
There’s a long way to go, but if the offensive line can be serviceable, this offense may surprise some folks in 2021. The key will be staying ahead of the chains and not shooting themselves in the foot with penalties and turnovers. I’d like to introduce my new podcast “Built For Playmakers” where I speak more on the QB battle and FSU’s overall talent level. Make sure you subscibe and download!
