Lots of New Faces Will Be Contributors

One thing that stood out from Saturday’s press conference after the scrimmage was the number of new players mentioned by the coaching staff.

Defensive backs Hunter Washington and Shyheim Brown heard their names called as players that flashed. Kevin Knowles is another freshman that will contribute as the nickel possession in the secondary.

Malik McClain and Joshua Burrell continue to flash, though I’m cautious with my expectations from freshmen receivers.

It helps they were early enrollees, but historically it’s a difficult transition from high school to college that first year.

However, Kansas transfer Andrew Parchment flashed and will be a big part of the offense in 2021 as expected.

Notre Dame transfer offensive lineman Dillan Gibbons will be a contributor on the interior of the offensive line.

We didn’t hear their names much from the scrimmage, but Jermaine Johnson and Keir Thomas seem like they’ll be big parts of the defensive line in 2021.
