Final Thoughts

When it comes to being the greatest college football coach of all-time, Bobby Bowden has a place at the table.

I can give a crap what the NCAA says because Bobby Bowden is the winningest coach in college football history.

His winning percentage is among the best, and that’s with starting from scratch at FSU and playing some of the toughest schedules in college football.

I know some people will point to Coach Bowden only having two national championships. That’s fair, but can you imagine if there was a college football playoff format between 1987 and 2000?

I think it would be fair to say Bobby Bowden’s FSU teams would have easily won three or four more national titles in that format.

I know the last few years of his career didn’t quite measure up to the standard he set at FSU. I’m sure some folks will look at those years and likely allow those years to influence their opinion of him as a coach.

However, when we look at his coaching career in totality, I think we can put him up against any coach in college football history and have a legitimate debate why he’s the greatest college football coach of all time.
