It has been a great week for former FSU running back Devonta Freeman. Freeman officially graduated from FSU after leaving early for the NFL after helping FSU win their third national title during the 2013 season.

Freeman, once the highest-paid running back in the NFL, has been hampered by injuries the past few seasons. Freeman found a new home with the New York Giants after the Atlanta Falcons released him after the 2019 season.

Injuries limited Freeman again in 2020, appearing in only five games before the Giants waived him. Devonta Freeman signed with the Buffalo Bills practice squad in early 2021 until that contract expired.

However, Devonta Freeman has found a new home with an old teammate. Freeman’s agent announced he had signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints, reuniting him with former FSU teammate Jameis Winston.

Winston is in a quarterback battle with Taysom Hill after the retirement of Drew Brees. It would be great to see both former Nole players revive their careers together. Freeman has played in 21 games since 2017 since totaling 896 yards on 252 carries and three touchdowns.

He also tallied 61 receptions for 491 yards and four touchdowns in the same time frame. Freeman turned 29 years old this past March and likely would be used in limited snaps with a crowded backfield that includes All-Pro running back Alvin Kamara.

I think he still has a little bit of tread left on the tires, provided he can finally stay healthy for a season. If so, he might be productive enough to garner one more contract before father time catches him for good.

Congrats to Devonta Freeman, and hopefully, his situation will work out better than Kelvin Benjamin with the New York Giants.
