FSU baseball head coach Mike Martin Jr. looks to sure up some holes on a team that finished a disappointing 31-24 overall.

The Noles struggled offensively and defensively, averaging over an error per game in 2021. An astounding 17 errors (26 percent) came from shortstop Nander De Sedas.

De Sedas hit the transfer portal, and it looks like the Noles could have an eventual replacement with former Florida Gator Jordan Carrion.

Jordan Carrion announced he would transfer to FSU baseball Wednesday afternoon via his Twitter account:

Jordan Carrion played in 37 games with 24 starts as a true freshman. He batted .244 with one home run and eight RBI’s and committed four errors in 88 chances (.955 fielding percentage). Carrion also chipped in on the pitching mound with 6.2 innings pitched, surrendering no runs and four hits.

Carrion didn’t have much production offensively, and the lone home run was the only extra-base hit in the season. However, he only struck out 22 percent of the time, compared to 33 percent for De Sedas.

Carrion will continue to develop as a hitter but probably has more value defensively at the moment. The Noles had too many costly errors from De Sedas, and it’s not like his bat was good enough to offset that negative.

I’m not too concerned about Carrion’s  field percentage over such a small sample size. He looked sharp in the film that I saw and has a cannon for an arm.

The addition could also be insurance should FSU signee Edwin Arroyo decide to sign with the Seattle Mariners after they drafted him in the second round a few days ago.

Mike Martin Jr has done a solid job of using the transfer portal to fill needs on the roster. The Noles have an excellent collection of pitchers. If they can improve offensively and defensively, they’ll be back among the elites sooner than later.
