Special Teams Neutral Over 2020

I’ve highlighted the need for special teams to be better recently. I’m not sure this unit could get worst. Aside from punter Alex Mastromanno, they were abysmal in every aspect.

I expect Mastromanno to improve upon his performance last year, but I’m in wait-and-see mode on the rest of the unit.

Who’s going to step up and win the field goal job? Will the punt return unit become a weapon for FSU football like in years past?

They need to get better in the mental aspect of the game. I saw too many opportunities lost with punt returners allowing the ball to hit the ground, losing huge amounts of field position.

Some kickoff returners would return a kick they should have fair caught, and punt returners would return kicks they should have let go into the end zone.

All of those hidden yards lost add up, especially when the offense has limitations. Hopefully, special teams can improve and place the offense in better situations in 2021.
