Defensive Backs Improved Over 2020

How bad was the FSU football defensive secondary last year? They were bad, but there was no pass rush from the defensive line, and the unit dealt with a ton of injuries.

The loss of Asante Samuel Jr. will be hard to replace, but the coaches will throw numbers at the position.

Several talented players with experience return in 2021. Travis Jay, Jarvis Brownlee Jr., Renardo Green, Akeem Dent, Meiko Dotson, and Jarrian Jones will factor into the majority of the snaps.

We also have newcomers like Demorie Tate, Hunter Washington, and Kevin Knowles in the mix.

Tate sat out last year and has been dealing with an injury, but was the highest-ranked player in the 2020 class. Knowles enrolled early and showed flashes he could be a contributor early.

The experience and talent combined with the time to get reps in the defense will make a difference in this unit, especially if the defensive line can get a pass rush.
